MATT REDMAN
>
UNQUENCHABLE WORSHIPPER
A refreshing look at worshipping God. Using many examples from the Bible and drawing on his own experience as a worship leader, Matt Redman shows us how worship relates to the whole of our lives and not just a Sunday meeting. Matt Redman has been one of the young leaders at the helm of the modern worship movement in Britain, and one of the most popular songwriters and worship leaders of his generation. His time is now spent with Soul Survivor and he regularly leads worship at the "Soul Survivor" and he regularly leads worship at the "Soul Survivor On The Road" events. This is unashamedly a book about God and living a devoted life in His presence. Worship is about God, to God and for God. The Unquenchable Worshipper shouts this truth out loud - Mike Pilavachi This is not a teaching manual on how to lead worship; nor is it the life-story of a successful Christian musician - although elements of both are included. "The Unquenchable Worshipper" is a collection of deep spiritual thoughts on what it means to be a true worshipper of God. Written by well known British worship leader / recording artist Matt Redman, widely recognised as a man of truly humble spirit, it is indeed his perceptible humility and obvious passion for the Lord that makes this particular title so inspiring and compelling. The book is fairly short and easy to read. The author, constantly illustrating with Bible examples and teachings, lists ten essential qualities of a genuine worshipper - he/she is to be unquenchable, undone, undignified, unpredictable, unveiled, unstoppable, unnoticed, undivided, unsatisfied (yep, unsatisfied - great chapter), and unending! You will have to read the book to uncover the full truths of these attributes of course, but what primarily came over to me was that worship isn't just about music, it's an attitude of the heart - a 24-hour-a-day lifestyle. Matt quotes various writers, including a source of inspiration from days of yore - the indefatigable hymn-writer Charles Wesley. He also shares the beautiful story behind his own song ‘The heart of worship (When the music fades)'. In essence, as Mike Pilavachi points out in his foreword, this is 'unashamedly a book about God and living a devoted life in his presence'. I, for one, was truly challenged and blessed by it's simple yet profound message. Review by Tom Lennie
